Creating Advanced Dimensions - SolidEdge

Creating Advanced Dimensions

  • clip_image002

Overview: There are a few dimension types that can save time in dimensioning a profile. These dimension types are not used as often and sometimes do not convey the design intent of the profile. Play the video for an overview of creating advanced dimensions, and editing profile objects. This file contains sound, so be sure to adjust your volume accordingly. clip_image004

Angle Between

This option creates angular dimensions that are stacked or chained from the first dimension placed. This option uses a similar selection method as the Dimension Between option discussed earlier.

Coordinate Dimensions

Coordinate dimensions are a series of dimensions placed from a common origin. They are typically used in manufacturing to give X and Y positions relative to a common start point, and are handy for quickly dimensioning a series of locations. The drawback is they may not capture the design intent you desire. Coordinate dimensions are created by selecting the origin point and by defining the orientation. After the orientation is defined, subsequent locations are defined and the dimension is placed for each location.

Deleting Objects

For profiles in general, it is sometimes necessary to remove an object from a profile. Any type of object can be removed by simply selecting the object, and by pressing the DELETE key. If you wish to remove a geometric constraint, click Select Tool on the Draw toolbar and pick the geometric constraint. Press the DELETE key to remove the selected object. The same works for dimensions and curves contained in the profile.
