Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson (born 18 July 1950) is a British business magnate, best known for his Virgin Group of over 400 companies. 

His first successful business venture was a journal called Student at age 16. In 1970, they set up an audio record mail-order business. In 1972, they opened a chain of record stores, Virgin Records, later known as Virgin Megastores. Branson's Virgin brand grew quickly in the work of the 1980 as they set up Virgin Atlantic Airways & expanded the Virgin Records music label.

Richard Branson is the 5th richest person in the United Kingdom & 254th in the world according to Forbes' 2011 list of billionaires, with an estimated net worth of about £2.58 billion (US$4.2 billion).

Politics

In the 1980s, they was briefly given the post of "litter Tsar" by Margaret Thatcher charged with "keeping Britain tidy". They was again seen as close to the government when the Labour Party came to power in 1997.[citation needed] In 2005 they declared that there were only negligible differences between the main parties on economic matters.He has often been mentioned as a candidate for Mayor of London, & polls have suggested they would be a viable candidate, though they has yet to express interest.

Business practices

Branson's business empire is owned by a complicated series of offshore trusts & companies. The Sunday Times said that his wealth is calculated at £3.065 billion; if they were to retire to his Caribbean island & liquidate all of this they would pay comparatively small in tax
